What we do

For the past 8 years, the Blackstone Valley Emergency Shelter, with the help of volunteers and the community at large, has successfully provided emergency shelter to those in need, particularly during the coldest nights of the winter.  We typically work with friends who are based out of the Blackstone Valley area.

Love

Our Mission

To give people in an emergency situation a warm place to stay

during the coldest months of the year.

Our Vision

The Blackstone Valley Emergency Shelter will be a safe place that links people in distressful situations to providers of services they may need or want. These services could include a warming shelter, job training, addiction support, facilities for personal hygiene, mentoring, counseling, and consistent accountability. Our objective is not only to provide temporary assistance but to walk with individual and families

in their adverse circumstances.

Our Annual Fundraisers

We have two big fundraisers throughout the year.  We are currently getting ready for our 20th Blackstone Valley Tasting Event

Our work depends on the support of our community through two annual fundraisers. Our spring fundraiser, the BV Tasting takes place at Blissful Meadows Golf Club on March 8, starting at 7:00 PM. We have 5 local breweries, 2 local distilleries, a cider works and a winery.  We also  have some INCREDIBLE auction and raffle items.  Tickets are $40 each and you can purchase at the link below. You can learn more on our FB page

Our Police Partnership Program

The Blackstone Valley Emergency Shelter has partnered with local Police Departments to give alternative support to those experiencing homelessness. We supply local police with:
Hope Bags - including space blankets, snacks, gas cards, and other necessities based on the weather.
Gift Cards – we provide gift cards to local establishments so the homeless can be considered a customer. This gives them the opportunity to sit down, get something to eat, and charge their phones.
Emergency Shelter options – the BVES relies on the officers to use discretion in offering a homeless person lodging at a local facilty.  We hope that the person sincerely is homeless and not abusing the offer to give them a night off the streets.
On-line Resource Listing - We have collected names and contact info for resource organizations that will help those in an emergency situation. You can download our resource listing here
